Online Banking Security
At Community State Bank we are concerned about security on the Internet. That is why we have chosen the online system that we use. Our entire Online Banking product requires Secure Socket Layer technology (SSL) and 128-bit encryption.
What is SSL? From the time you log in until you log off, SSL technology encodes information that is being sent over the Internet between your computer and ours. All of your information is encrypted preventing a third party from viewing your personal information and intercepting it. SSL encryption is commonly used in Internet applications that require security and privacy for any sensitive data.
How do I know that my connection is protected by SSL? The padlock icon on your browser, indicating a secure connection, should appear after you have logged in to
Online Banking.
Browser Encryption. We require use of a browser with 128-bit encryption to access Online Banking. This is the highest level of encryption available. Microsoftâ Internet Explorer, Netscapeâ Navigator and Netscapeâ Communicator are all secure browsers. We recommend use of Microsoftâ Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher or Netscape âNavigator version 4.7 or higher.
You may use the following links to upgrade your browser level:
Netscapeâ Navigator
Microsoftâ Internet Explorer
Remember that after you have downloaded the proper browser, you must install it on your computer. Follow the manufacturer's instructions that appear on your screen.
Access ID and Password Protection. Before you can access Online Banking, you must enter your Access ID and Password. Your password is not displayed when entered.
Never share your Password with anyone. Change your password often, and be sure that you do not use common words that can be found in a dictionary, or numbers that represent known dates such as birth dates and anniversaries. We require that your password be at least 8 characters long. To make your password more secure, use both upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.
Log Off. Please use the "Log Off" button whenever you are going to be away from your computer. The Log Off feature will close your banking session and return you to our home page where you will have to enter your Access ID and Password to enter the Online Banking site. As added protection, after a period of inactivity you current session will timeout. To resume your session, you will have to re-enter your Access ID and Password.
Network Security and Monitoring. We use Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems to protect our systems and network from any unauthorized Internet traffic. Firewalls act as a guard, protecting the bank's systems and networks from unauthorized entry by screening all traffic and allowing only authorized network protocols. Firewalls also create logs of network traffic that allow for central auditing and security monitoring. Intrusion Detection Systems allow us to watch for unusual activity or attempts to "hack in" to our system. We also use a security monitoring service that monitors our Online Banking system twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Guarding the safety of your financial transactions is a constant process at Community
